A powerful scrummager and proficient lineout operator the Newcastle University educated front rower is a core member of the Ulster and Ireland set up. Simon relishes the physical contest and is combative in both offensive and defensive situations.

His leadership skills were recognised in the form of the Ulster captaincy in 2005 and endorsed by Ireland in 2007 when he twice captained his country against Argentina.

Simon made his Ulster debut in 1999 starting his career on the loose head side but he answered Ireland's call and has developed into a specialist tight head.

Capped at Schools, U19, U21, U25 and A levels Simon made his Irish senior debut against Tonga in 2003.
