Michael Heaney is an aggressive defender and combines this skill with his organizational abilities at the breakdown. A natural kicker of the ball, Michael's mastery of this skill enables him to probe and exploit opposition defences, keeping his pack moving forward in the right direction.
After a successful schools career with Methodist College Belfast where Michael Heaney won two Ulster Schools Cups defeating Regent House in the 2008 final, then R.B.A.I. in the 2009 final, Michael went on to represent Ulster at U19 level then Ireland at U20 level.
Michael Heaney was a member of the Ireland U20 squad that won the 2010 Six Nations Championship and was member of the Irish U20 squad that travelled to Argentina for the IRB Junior World Championships.
